Tuesday Table Special Event: 8 Ball Tournament(s) & Fundraiser
- 16 Player Single Elimination except for the Final Match which will be best 2 out of 3
- $20 Buy-in with the following Prizes:
- First Place: $125 (and a spot in a future Tournament of Champions once 8 Tournaments are held)
- Second Place: $75
- Remaining pot of $120 goes to NYGPL to be donated to our Charities
- Break & Run Prize: Any player who breaks and runs will receive a bottle of champagne. If you are at the "losing end" of a Break & Run, you will be guaranteed a spot in a future Tournament with your Buy-in covered.
- We will be playing League Rules with the following changes:
- "BYOC" (Bring your own Coach): If you would like, you can bring your own Coach. If you are selected to play (see below), you will need to inform the Tournament Director of who your Coach is when you arrive at Industry the evening of the Tournament. League Rules will apply regarding Coaches (i.e., you can have unlimited discussion with your Coach while you are not shooting; you can call Coach 3 times during your game).
- If you opt NOT to bring a Coach, you will still be allowed to call "Coach for Time" up to three times during your game.
- It is also possible that experienced Coaches will be on site as Spectators during the Tournament and willing to volunteer to be a Coach during the Tournament - however, you should not rely on this.
- The Referee will choose a player to call the coin flip at the beginning of each game. The winner of the coin flip will decide who breaks.
- Since no Captains will be attendance to argue Referee calls, we will have a strict policy that the Referee has the final decision and we ask that all Players respect this rule.
- Warm-up period: Upon arrival at Industry, players will need to check in with the Tournament Director. Starting at 6 p.m., the Tournament Director will designate players to warm-up based on arrival times. Players will not be completing whole games, or playing "winner stays on" during the Warm-up period to allow as many players to warm-up as possible.
- Selection Process:
- The Registration Period is now open and will close at noon on Monday, April 20th
- Anyone interested in Playing in a $20 Buy-in Tournament (including but not limited to the April 28th Tournament), should send an email to Mark Heinold at Leemarcus@aol.com ... your email should include:
- Your name
- Your current team if you are playing 9 Ball (this is important for the selection process to ensure fairness to those who might get selected to play but can't because of the 9 Ball Schedule). Any player selected to play for April 28th but cannot, will be given "right of first refusal" to play in a future Tournament.
- Your email
- Your phone number (in case the Tournament Director needs to text you for some reason)
- After Registration closes, the Tournament Director will place ALL submissions into a hat, and with witnesses, will pull 16 names for the April 28th Tournament. Then, the Tournament Director will send an email to all those who submitted their names so everyone sees the 16 players who were selected for the April 28th Tournament. (Note: If one of the 16 names pulled is ineligible to play on the 28th because of the 9 Ball Schedule, their name will be set aside for a guaranteed spot in a future tournament and another name will be pulled.)
- Then a separate email will go to the 16 Selected Players with the various ways to pay Mark Heinold the $20 Buy-in fee. All Buy-ins must be completed by 5 p.m., Friday April 24th. If any of the 16 selected players do not complete their buy-in payment to Mark in time, they will be replaced by someone else from the original submission list. To reiterate: please do not plan on giving cash the day of the Tournament. If Buy-in payments are not received by Mark by 5 p.m., April 24th, you will become ineligible to play in the April 28th Tournament and will be replaced.
- Once the 16 original (or substituted) Players are paid up, all 16 names will go back into the hat, and once again randomly pulled to complete the brackets. Therefore, Players will NOT know who they will be playing until after they have paid, and only a day or two prior to the Tournament.
- The 16 Players of the Tournament will be asked if they are willing to Referee some games the night of the Tournament. HOWEVER, refereeing games will not be made mandatory for the 16 Players.
- A short "Wait List/Standby List" will be created by the Tournament Director to ensure there are some folks at Industry Bar the night of the Tournament to "jump in" and play should one of the 16 selected players be a no-show or if they had informed the Tournament Director they can't make it. In this instance, the Standby Player WILL be allowed to give $20 cash to the Tournament Director in order to play. No refunds of the $20 Buy-in will occur to any Player who doesn't show. If additional monies are raised via Standby Players, it will simply increase the amount of money going to NYGPL for our charities.
- Referees: Please consider volunteering to Referee the Tournament on April 28th. While the 16 Players will be asked in advance of the Tournament of their willingness to Ref some games, I need some dedicated folks to send me an email saying they are willing to Referee. Please send an email to Mark Heinold at Leemarcus@aol.com if you are willing to be a Referee during the Tournament.
- Coaches: If you are not planning to play but are willing to be an "on-site" standby Coach for any Player who wants a Coach but was unable to bring one, please let me know by sending me an email of your willingness to be on site and eligible to Coach.
- Assistants/Future Tournament Directors: If you'd like to "shadow" me during the Tournament to either just assist for the night of the Tournament, or willing to be a Future Tournament Director, please send me an email stating your interest. Obviously I will be unable to structure and manage every Tournament going forward (especially as I focus on the other Special Events), so I would REALLY appreciate others stepping up to help me on this Tournament and future ones. Assistants for the night of the Tournament will be asked to help me Register people as they arrive; manage the Warm-up Period; Register Player's Coaches and inform the Referees of which Players brought Coaches; Manage the Referees; Update the brackets; etc.
- Spectators: Clearly, Industry Bar is allowing us to use their table on Tuesdays with the hope of bringing in a crowd on an otherwise quiet night. So, please come out to watch!! It's also a great way to introduce new recruits to the League and network them so feel free to "BROR" (Bring Your Own Recruit) and introduce them to our great NYGPL Community!
- Outside Food & Drink: Please respect Industry Bar's strict policy against outside food and drink.
Nothing to display yet. Please check back later.
